Sagehen Mesa - Season 3, Episode 14 - Kathy Chimes In

Hello, Kathy Roland speaking. I don't think you've heard from me before. My sister Jolene is the one who usually speaks for my family. But I just got a look at my daughter's essay, and thought you might need a little more information about what's going on with me from an adult's perspective.

First of all, I really did try to make my relationship with Tim work. Magdalena was a surprise baby, but I don't regret having her one bit. Where she heard the word "bastard" is beyond me, but I can see Tim teasing her good-naturedly about it, or the kids at school might have taught her that word. It NEVER came from me - I want to be clear about that.

I moved in with Tim fully intending for us to get married, but he's just so condescending and abrasive and insensitive, and thoughtless! Our little last-ditch date at the rodeo grounds was the last straw. The man can never appreciate any of my accomplishments and always mocks me for my weaknesses. I want Magdalena and Tim to have a good relationship, but I don't want Magdalena thinking it's okay to let men treat her as something lesser!

So I've moved on. It's true Hunter and I have been seeing each other lately, but we aren't that serious - at least not yet. I'm also kind of interested in Nick Whiting. He works with me at the bistro.

I was out with Hunter and ran into him at the florist shop. It was a little awkward. I tried to play it cool, letting Nick know I was out with Hunter, but at the same time trying to make sure he knew it was just a casual thing with him and not serious.

The date started out in a funny way. Hunter showed up at my house driving a limo!

"Hop in the back babe! I'll show you what it's like to be a snooty rich person!"

"I don't mind if I do! Where are we going?"

"We are going downtown, baby! I'll take you to all the swankiest shops and restaurants in town!"

And that's how we ended up in the florist shop.

I don't think I've ever had a man spoil me like that, so I rewarded him with a kiss and a hug.

We were spotted by Hector Lopez. He had to stick his nose into our business!

"Kathy! I'm surprised at you! I thought you were smarter that this! Don't fall for that guy; he's shacked up with Guadalupe Coy, and word around town is they are in a romantic relationship!"

"Surely you're mistaken, Hector. Guadalupe is an old woman! You know how this town gossips. I know Hunter lives with her, but he's just renting a room from her. This town is short on housing, you know."

"And what business is my personal life to you? I can do what I want and see who I want!"

And that's where Nick came in. We shared some small talk, then Hunter suggested we go to The Pit Stop for a drink.

We were enjoying a game of gnubb when I got a call from Uncle Sam. He said he heard our horses carrying on, and went to check on the situation and found dad had passed away in the barn.

It was time to end the date and notify the rest of the family. How can such a nice date end so badly? The sunny day ended with a sudden cold front and a dusting of snow. Hunter came by later to pay his respects and see how I was doing.

This is where Magdalena spotted him and assumed he was soon to be her new father.

And as for this "princess" business. I really wish Magdalena's male relatives would stop putting notions into her head that she is one. It's just going to set her up for disappointment down the road.

First Tim humors her, then his criminal father tells her he's a king and that makes her a princess. I swear if I spot Cliff skulking around the school, I'm calling the cops!

As for Tim, he quit working at the bistro, so I don't have to deal with him at work anymore. Instead he's decided to work the family mine now that the snow is clearing up.

He bought a forge for smelting metals, and a gem cutter and put them in one of the outbuildings on the property. He still hasn't filled in that tunnel the sits right in the middle of the room. The whole building seems rather dangerous for a kid like Magdalena to be anywhere near, so I'm nervous every time Tim picks her up for a visit.

It seem Tim is also trying to sabotage my relationship with Hunter. He had the nerve to call up Jolene, because she's a PI, and claimed Hunter was hacking his computer and tried to sabotage any chance for a promotion at the bistro, which is why he claims he quit the job and decided to work for himself.

I guess Hunter did get a promotion instead of Tim, which is why he could afford the limo for our date.

According to Jolene, there was some truth to the accusation. She did find some evidence on Hunter's computer. I hate being caught in the middle of all this drama!
