Sagehen Mesa - Season 2, Episode 15 - The Showdown Between Rae and Cliff

So it finally happened. I was getting to know Ben Culpepper's daughter-in-law Holli, when I happened to glance over her shoulder, that there he was! Cliff, the bane of my career! The one who got away!

He noticed that I spotted him and tried to sneak away.

"Stop, in the name of the law!" I called. (I always wanted to say that since I was a little girl.)

Oddly enough, it worked. He actually did stop.

"Your jail cell is just around the corner, waiting for you, Cliff."

He seemed amused; I could tell he wasn't taking me seriously. "You'll never take me alive, copper!" he sneered. (I can't help but think he had been waiting for the opportunity to use that line nice he was a kid, too.)

"No llama-faced female is gonna take me into custody!"

That was the last straw! A struggle ensued. I wasn't only angry, I was hangry.

Ben Culpepper, on his way to meet up with Josie, didn't give our scuffle the time of day.

"Thanks a lot for your help, Ben!" I shouted.

Apprehending the scoundrel was harder than I thought. My hunger was getting the better of me.

"Curses! foiled again!" I thought as the culprit skedaddled.

A few minutes later, Clancy showed up to take me to dinner. I told him all about the altercation and what a bad day I was having, but men can be so dense sometimes.

"Hey, Josie's car is here. I've always wanted to see what it would feel like to sit behind the wheel. Come on, hop in!" he exclaimed.

I humored him. Then he started getting handsy, and I had enough.

"Geez Clancy! Aren't you gonna at least take me to dinner first?" I scolded.

"Whoa, sorry Rae. I guess I'm being insensitive. You said you had a bad day, didn't you. I'm really sorry. Let's go to the bistro. Maybe a nice meal cooked by someone else will make you feel better."

I can never stay mad at Clancy for long. I could see the humor in the situation after I cooled down a bit.

"It was pretty humiliating being bested by your old man. I guess I need to get in better shape for our next encounter," I joked.

We made up as Ben and Josie made out.

Clancy made good on his dinner out offer. Oddly enough, Cliff disappeared after that night. No one has seen him for months it seems. Some say he fled the town while others claim he's fled the country. But I suspect we haven't seen the last of that low-life. I need to remain vigilant.
