Cliff's oldest son Clancy and Cliff's wife Tess (I think I forgot to age Cliff and Tess up to adult. Whoops!)
Cliff Mahon comes from a long line of miners. One of his ancestors established a claim to an opal mine nearby that has been in the family for years - at least they are convinced they still own it. There are rumors that the claim lapsed due to missed maintenance fee payments, but Cliff is convinced that this is all a bunch of hogwash. He’s prone to intimidating visitors to what he believes is his property, and God help them if they try removing opals and other gems from the area while he’s around. (Traits: Mean-spirited, Over-emotional, No sense of humor, Ambitious, and Dog person.)
Tess, an aspiring sculptor, met Cliff at college. What drew her to him is anyone’s guess, but she must have been swayed by his rugged good-looks, and he may have been more even-tempered when he was younger. She married him and moved to his family’s ancestral home. Two kids later, she’s still here and still married - at least for now. (Traits: Hates the outdoors, Savvy sculptor, Neat, Irresistible, and Computer whiz.)
Clancy doesn’t have a lot of interest in mining or sculpting. He doesn’t like crowds or people he doesn’t know. What he does like is taking his dad’s boat out on the water and enjoying solitude. (Traits: Athletic, Inappropriate, Shy, and Sailor.)
Timothy takes after his father. Maybe he’s the next “heir” to the Mahon mining legacy. (Traits: Mean-spirited, slob, and loves the cold.)
What happened in my playtest save:
Cliff went to work his claim one day only to find a singer out busking. The racket she was making was drawing all kinds of people in.
He tried telling the lady in no uncertain terms that she was trespassing and needed to leave, but she didn't take him seriously.
Cliff thought he'd have better luck intimidating young Jolene Roland by yelling at her and hurling insults, . . .
but she gave as well as she got and up and slapped him.
No one talks to Jolene like that!
Cliff hoped that the noise from the drill would be enough to drive the people off his property, but they were only mildly annoyed.
Dr. Ellen astutely observed that this man had issues. Perhaps she has found her first client for her psychiatry practice! She went to introduce herself, but the man blatantly ignored her.
Eventually he stopped drilling, and they really seemed to hit it off.
The snow cone machine was quite popular, and a line quickly formed. There was a lot of foot-tapping while they waited.
