Life in the Bayou - Part 6 - Brief stays with various households.

I spent some time hopping between households, spending a few days here, a few days there. . . Some of these characters we have already met, but most are new. It was a misty, moist morning in Bayou Bijou when I took screenshots of the homes, but the rainbows were pretty.

The Maples

The Maples family has moved into 314 Cherry Garden Lane. When I dropped in on them Julio Maples, a fairy, was out shooting hoops with some random visitor named Shelton Thurman.

Julio is lucky, a computer whiz, loves the outdoors, is easily impressed, and childish. Being childish could explain his penchant for autonomously casting the chattering teeth prank on his family members.
His lifetime wish is "greener gardens."

His long-suffering wife is Nicolle, a human, who for some reason maintains a good relationship with Julio despite his frequent pranks. She is athletic and can often be seen on the basketball court shooting hoops. She is also a mooch, a slob, friendly and a party animal. Her lifetime wish is to be a fashion phenomenon.

I placed a fairy house under this tree, just in case Julio gets to be too much. He likes hanging out here.

Julio and Nicolle have a toddler son named Lowell. He's excitable and clumsy. My favorite family member is the teenage daughter Deidre.

Deidre, like her mother and brother, is a human, and seems to get along well with her parents.

(The dude in the foreground is Shelton Thurman, who was just visiting.)

Deidre has a green thumb, is a couch potato, a great kisser, but has commitment issues. That being said, she has a crush on a boy named Reid Pease and was thrilled when he asked her out on a date.

He invited her to a secluded spot in the swamp, (someday it will be the fortuneteller's site) and even hired a singer to serenade them. How sweet! He must really be interested in her. (Both the singer and Reid got makeovers partway through this scene, so please overlook the wardrobe switches.)

She told him a story about something funny her little brother did, and he wondered if she was interested in having kids some day.

He hoped she was impressed by the singer he arranged for their own private entertainment.

He was trying to figure out if his plan was a hit when Deidre decided to make a bold move of her own.

I guess it was too much of a surprise for him, because he didn't react he way she anticipated.

Poor Deidre was completely confused and embarrassed. She asked to leave the date. Deidre had the wish to meet a supernatural, and the haunted cabin was just down the road, so Deidre headed that direction.

While she sat and tried to compose herself, (and I hoped for one of the ghosts to appear), she noticed some potions sitting on the shelves and became curious.

There was a cheerful-looking pink one labeled "Bliss."
"I could use some bliss right now," she thought.

She drank it and felt much better. Next she checked out her horoscope in the crystal ball.

"Inconceivable!" she thought, "How can anything go wrong when I feel so good?"

She was feeling kind of peckish, so she took her chances on some salad she found in the fridge. It looked fresh enough. However, she did need to run to the bathroom shortly thereafter.

Deidre recovered quickly and decided to peruse the books as this place clearly didn't have a TV, cell service, or electricity for that matter.

As she started pulling a book from the shelf, a secret door gave way, and she discovered a staircase to a basement.

She found more potions and a lot of other interesting equipment. However, as she was looking for a label on one of the potions, it slipped from her hands and broke at her feet!

She was suddenly very, very sleepy. "I've got to get back upstairs and lie down for awhile," she thought.

She made it to the top of the stairs where she fell asleep on her feet! (It's a good thing Sims don't fall down stairs, I guess.)

She woke with a start and made it to the bed to take a nice nap.

I went to check on the rest of the family while she slept. Nicolle was shooting hoops while little Lowell enjoyed some outside time.

I sent Julio off to do some science stuff as he had a few wishes related to science. When I went back to Deidre, she was awake, but not for long. She collapsed on the floor fast asleep again.

I thought this would be an opportune time for Kenyatta to show up and find her there - a little like sleeping beauty meets Goldilocks. I went to find Kenyatta and send him over, but by the time he got there, Deidre was gone. Oh, well.

A Few Days with the Beaumonts

Kenyatta was in an argument with his mom. It made sense that he might want to hide out for a bit.

He learned a few more recipes: Large and in Charge (that needs hot dogs) and the Cure Elixir. He had what he needed for the cure elixir. I guess I should have checked the fridge for hotdogs as Large and in Charge would be a great revenge elixir to have on hand.

Things just got stranger for the Beaumont family after this. Later that night, Kenyatta's sister Kyla was abducted by extraterrestrials. She spotted some strange lights in the sky and went to investigate.

Kenyatta was on his way to take care of the chickens, when he saw the same lights.

He saw Kyla taken up to the spaceship and wondered if they would bring her home again. He went inside to tell his mother, but Danita didn't believe him. "Oh, it must have been some strange lighting around the moon," she said. "I heard on the news there was going to be something like that going on. I'm sure your sister just out in the barn - where you should be. Where are those eggs you were supposed to collect?"

Kenyatta went back to the barn, but Kyla wasn't there.

Luckily, Kyla was returned, but she was not happy about the experience.

After Deidre passed out on the floor of the haunted cabin, I was thinking of getting her and Kenyatta together, but Kenyatta has already secured his own girlfriend without my help.

He has been seeing Bridget Echols. They had a cute date the other day.

Neurotic Danita has taken to carving jack o' lanterns in the spring. I guess she just wants to be prepared for autumn.

My visit with the Beaumonts culminated in a burglary. I was looking all around for the burglar and couldn't find him. Then I saw a scuffle taking place in the entryway.

Kenyatta took care of things. What a good son!

Jackson Mean probably won't darken their doorstep anytime soon. Moving on . . .

The Benoit Family

The Benoit household was created by Kcity74 along with their home the Cabin Compound.

The backstory is that they are a close-knit family but don't have a lot of money. The daughter, went off to the big city, married, had a couple of kids, then her husband left her. She couldn't afford her current lifestyle, so has moved back with her parents to try to get back on her feet.

While it's true that this family lives modestly, they are more wealthy than it seems. Their personal inventories are loaded with valuables that, if sold, would set them up in a fancier house. I suspect that Ma and Pa prefer the simple life and aren't telling Constance about their hidden wealth because they don't trust her ability to handle money wisely, want to keep her close to home, or want her to be able to stand on her own two feet.

Let's meet the family. When I first joined them, Ezekiel and Prudence were out on a date at Four Knights of the South, a tavern/poolside club created by Chojrak75321.

Ezekiel is a professional fisherman and is at level 5 in his career. His lifetime wish is to have a private aquarium. He is brooding, family oriented, eccentric, loves the outdoors, and is an angler.

His wife Prudence is overemotional, a green thumb, nurturing, proper, and frugal. She is a professional gardener at level 6, and has a lifetime wish of having the perfect garden. She has several perfect plants in her existing garden. She is also a good cook and has achieved the Menu Maven challenge in cooking.

The carnival must have been in town, judging by the outfits of the employees and other customers.

Ezekiel just had to get this guy's story, because who wouldn't?

According to NRAAS, this is Taurus Velez, a "homeless vagrant" and level 8 acrobat. He was previously a level 5 magician. He has level 4 in the athletic skill and is excitable, athletic, a light sleeper, a rebel, a green thumb, and has a good sense of humor.

Prudence was too interested in her darts game to pay Taurus any mind.

Constance is Ezekiel's and Prudence's recently divorced daughter. She loves her parents, but hopes she doesn't have to live with them for too long. She's currently unemployed. She's a hopeless romantic, so she will soon be looking for a Prince Charming to sweep her off her feet and set her up in the city. She's ambitious, nurturing, neat, and a perfectionist.

Constance's daughter Violet is a bookworm, an angler, and good.

Constance's son Caleb is brave, good, and an angler.

I could see grandpa taking the kids fishing, so I bought him a rowboat. The day they were to go it was hailing up a storm. Violet retreated indoors and read a book, so it was just Ezekiel and Caleb out in the boat. Ezekiel kept assuring complaining Caleb the the storm would ease up soon and the fishing would be good.

While this was the case, by the time they got to their destination and were about to drop their lines in the water, Caleb pulled out his cell phone and called a water taxi to take him to shore, the ingrate! On his way home he came across their neighbor Billy Blackmon and told him he was headed home because it was just too cold to be fishing with Grandpa.

Billy was inclined to agree with him.

However, guess what Caleb chose to do once he got home? Kids these days!

Ezekiel stayed and fished by himself. He caught a sewer trilobite, which is not a fish I've encountered all the years I've played this game. I love how I still can discover something new after all these years!

It's excellent quality, but there's now way I'm going to make anyone eat something called a sewer trilobite, so I guess they can fertilize the garden with it or use it for bait.

Violet told Grandpa that she'd like to go fishing with him sometime, but not when it is so cold out. (It's early spring in the game.)

I forgot to mention the final member of the household: Ezekiel's dog Boot. Boot is non-destructive, neat, friendly, and a hunter - an all-around "good boy." He was keeping a lot of valuable gems in his "backpack."

Grandpa finally got the chance to take the grandkids fishing. He took them to the Big Snake Fishing Spot, (created by Soocoolsim.)

Grandpa even grilled them up some fish n chips for lunch.

Meanwhile, Constance decided to go to the science facility and register for some science classes. (I included an admin rabbithole rug in the basement so she can register for classes.)

While she was there, she met Kenyatta.

The first thing she did was tell him about her messy divorce.

Why she would lead with that when introducing herself to a teenage boy is beyond me. Then they started talking about things he might be more interested in, but the conversation took an ugly turn toward the end.

She talked about Dungeons and Dragons, and parties and dance clubs, . . .

told him how much she liked spaghetti, and he told her he preferred shellfish.

It seems to be when they started talking about books verses technology that they got in an argument.

Constance's wants were leaning toward science and handiness, while Kenyatta is obsessed with alchemy and the supernatural, so maybe that's why an argument ensued.

Oh well, Constance has another errand to run while she's out. Since she and the kids moved in, the laundry has been piling up. There's not enough line space to accommodate it all,

. . .  and Ezekiel is dead-set on NOT purchasing a dryer, which he made clear to the phone solicitor who tried to sell him one.

So Constance took her and the kids' laundry to Jacquard, Batiste, and Bath (by Chojrak).

She enjoyed the hot tub while waiting for her clothes to cycle.

She met another teenage boy, Curtis Spencer, the Reinharts' nanny, and of course had to tell him all about her messy divorce.

"I tell you, this man was so toxic, it was unbelievable! He left me with nothing but the kids in the divorce settlement."

"I'm thinking of starting a social media channel about cooking in hopes of bring in a little extra income," she explained. Lorena Burroughs, the social media influencer, overheard the conversation and made it clear that she did not want any competition in the social media arena.

Meanwhile, Khalilah Reinhart decided to make the most of her time by practicing her keyboard skills while waiting for her laundry.

The next day, Constance went back to the science facility to fulfill some of her science wants and met mad scientist Scott Guinn and Bart Ransone, the new husband of Lorena Burroughs, the social media influencer who was snotty to her the day before. Both men were quite impressed with her.

Perhaps Constance and Lorena will become rivals in more ways than one.

However, I think Constance is setting her sights on Ashley Bender aka the man in the red coat, she's learned he lives in the Riverside Blues high rise (created by Hidehi2.)

Constance has a want to move to a high rise, and Ashley clearly has an interest in her.

She asked him how he made a living. It appears he gives speaking engagements, mostly about the latest nutritional trends.

It seems he also would be interested in starting a family with the right woman. Ashely is family oriented, nurturing, a natural cook, charismatic, and excitable. Constance could definitely do worse.

That evening, while Constance was out enjoying the hot tub at Bayou Beats, . . .

Ashely showed up on her parents' doorstep, hoping to see her again.

He learned that Constance had two school-age children, . . .

and told Prudence that he was hoping to invite Constance out to a show.

They discussed gardening until Constance came home. Constance told Ashely about her recent, messy divorce and explained she wasn't sure she was ready to get deeply involved in another relationship right away.

While she found him attractive . . .

she wasn't sure she'd ever want to get married again.

Ashley suggested they just "live in sin" instead. She didn't cotton to that idea.

"My daughter has a perfectly good dwelling out back! There's no reason she should feel she need to compromise her integrity and move in with a man she barely knows! She belongs with her kin!" Ezekiel proclaimed.

It was getting late and Constance said goodnight to him and headed off to bed. Still, Ashely hung around on the porch, so I sent Ezekiel out to tell him to leave, but Ezekiel wasn't much help.

The old man did eventually wake up and ask Ashely to leave so everyone could go to bed.

The next day, everyone but Ezekiel went to the spring festival for the afternoon. It was the first time I saw other sims there too.

"I can't believe Grandpa would rather go fishing than come here!" Violet enthused.

Constance ran into Ashely again.

And she also met Nicolle Maples and got to know her.

Nicolle recently went to the salon and got a job as a stylist. However, she wasn't the stylist Constance got. I spotted her at the salon when I was with a different household and stuck around to see how her makeover came out.

The stylist was Shelton Thurman, the visitor the Maples family had when I first met them.

Constance wasn't devastated by her new look, but she thought it was rather "meh."

🎶 There she goes, just a walkin' down the street, singing do-wah-diddy-diddy-dum-diddy-do 🎶

I followed her home. She gave her mom a "don't say a word" look.

Sheldon Bean and Molly Oglesby

Sheldon Bean is a single guy living at Blossomfall Residence (created by Minisawa.)

Like Constance, I found him at the salon getting a makeover. His stylist's name is Molly Oglesby. Sheldon seemed quite happy with his new look.

I guess it's a grunge meets preppy look? Anyway, Sheldon is a social butterfly, handy, a heavy sleeper, a vegetarian, and frugal. His frugality doesn't extend to his recreational toys, however, because I found both a jet ski and paddleboat in his inventory. I guess he likes water-based recreation. His lifetime wish is to be a gold-digger.

On getting to know Molly prior to the makeover, he must have learned that she comes from money.

They exchanged recipes and I assume she learned he was a vegetarian.

Besides being wealthy, Molly is brave, clumsy, ambitious, a natural cook, and a rebel. She lives at Apartment Lalaurie (created by whatsociallife), and likes to paint.

Shortly after getting his makeover, Sheldon Bean came to pay her a visit. She rang him in, and they spent some time kicking a soccer ball and swimming in the pool that belongs to the surrounding apartments.

Their evening swim was followed by some drinks and dinner at The Four Knights of the South, which happened to be well-attended that evening.

Left to right: Molly, Whitney Gurley of Bourbonnais Townhouse, mad scientist Scott Guinn,  . . .

Sheldon, Graham Reinhart (in the top hat),

and Warren Benatcourt - the paparazzi who shows up everywhere. I guess mosquitos must be a problem out in the pool area in the cool evenings.

Molly and Sheldon ate, drank, played a game of darts, and went home.

There were a few glimpses of other interesting characters around town that I haven't taken the time to investigate here but might do so later.

First, there's Kendrick Fay, who lives in one of the adjoining apartments near Molly.

He's a mixologist at the moment. I'm not sure where he works. Then there's the werewolf, Stephen McClain who stopped by to visit the Benoit family one evening.

Stephen is irresistible, a bookworm, charismatic, a green thumb, and friendly. He's currently living in the Bourbonnais Townhouse with Whitney Gurley and several others, but I think he will be more at home in the swamp. I will probably either build him a house or move him into a house someone else builds in the near future.

That's it for now . . .
