North Winds Reboot - Part 8 - Nine days on Kit Island

When we left off, the boys settled on Kit Island. This is a small community, about the size of Pleasantville.

One clever idea this creator (99simsonthewall) came up with is putting a lot of the rabbitholes on a ferry, implying the residents have to take the ferry to the mainland for their morning commute.

This shot has the back of the ferry. It's boat-shaped - it just doesn't look like it from this angle. The tall building in the back is empty, but I was thinking it would make a nice restaurant. There's a small building in the middle with some vending machines and snack bar. The two-story building in the foreground is also empty, but would make a good storefront of some sort. The boys were wanting to invent things, and their house was too small for an inventing table, so I was thinking of possibly putting some sort of community workshop on the upper level.

This world in it's original form was short on houses, so I dropped a few small ones in, built a few on lots that had slopes to them and made it hard to drop a pre-made house on, and adjusted some of the venues. For instance, the coffee shop had about twice the number of tables needed for such a small population, and it was causing some routing challenges. Also, the bistro looked more like a bar, so I added the restaurant section to the empty attached building (on same lot) so it made more sense to me.

This is the grocery store. It was empty except for the rabbithole rug, so I filled it out, and since this town didn't have a consignment store, I added it to the attached storefront (on same lot) and changed the lot type to consignment store.

I also spent quite a bit of time giving NPCs makeovers to get them away from having pudding-face.

One of the first things the boys did was get to know the mascot and the next-door neighbor.

Anne Haynes was the next-door neighbor. When Calvin knocked on her door she came right over and made herself at home.

This screenshot is so distorted because the kitchen in this house blocks the sight-lines. I fixed it later by making a half-walll situation along the offending area.

Calvin and Anne really hit it off.

Anne is a dog person, but doesn't have a dog at the moment. Calvin apparently doesn't care for dogs. I think he's hoping she won't get one, so he doesn't have to hear barking day and night as they share a common wall between their apartments.

He told her getting a dog was a stupid idea, and I don't think she appreciated it.

He suggested she take up a quiet hobby instead - like painting.

Over the course of a few days, they spent more time together and grew quite fond of each other.

However, I asked Calvin if he found her attractive, and he gave her a 1 out of 10. This was right after he learned of her other obsession - being a bot fan.

They went on a few dates. They even played music together. He was wanting to start a band, so plans were for him to ask her, but it never seemed to be the right time to do so.

The guy on the bass is Cecil Franklin, a paparazzi. I guess you can't ask them to join bands, because I think I tried. I gave him a makeover.

The mascot, Ella Christopher, took an interest in Maxwell and asked him out on a date the second they they were in town. They went to the festival.

They competed in a hotdog eating contest along with a woman named Gail Seals.

As soon as she realized she didn't win, Gail gave up and was so embarrassed she the fled the scene.

In the end, Ella was the winner, but Maxwell insisted on finishing his hotdogs and paid for it in the end.

He was a bit upset with Ella for winning and growled at her. He got a whack on the head with a newspaper for his troubles.

Maxwell remembered himself and transformed back to a human. The rest of the afternoon, they enjoyed playing music together.

It was the boys' first night in town when they had an unwelcome visitor.

Unbeknownst to me, this duplex came with a burglar alarm, which woke the family up and alerted the police. The guy didn't stand a chance!

The officer didn't hold back, and soon the perp found his head caught in the stair banister! Way to go!

The whole ordeal was apparently too much for Calvin, and it brought on a transformation into a werewolf, but being new to the whole process and under a considerable amount of stress, poor Calvin's conversion was an epic fail.

Way to go, Calvin. What an amateur!

Calvin managed to change back to human, and while he grabbed some breakfast, Maxwell tried to give him a few pointers.

A while later, Calvin tried again.

Maybe his phone going off broke his concentration. Maxwell decided that teaching Calvin to fight might build up his confidence for later transformations.

Later that day, Angelo aged up from teen to young adult.

Angelo outgrew that awful emo stage.

I definitely see a family resemblance between these guys.

Gone are the carefree afternoons in the park. It's time for Angelo to find a mate and produce the next heir. Most of the women in this town are older than him, but it doesn't hurt to look around.

Earlier he befriended barista Leann Orr.

Maxwell befriended Tamara Hardin, who was a criminal.

Later, I gave her a makeover, so she looks a bit different.

Tamara quickly took up with this guy named Torrey, and by the time this episode ends, they are about to have a baby.  This is Torrey below.

He was getting worked up over something, and Tamara was just hoping he wouldn't make a scene. This couple can often be found at the gym, which explains why they came to the party all stinky.

Maxwell has grown quite fond of Rin, the cockatoo he brought with him from Strangetown. He's been trying to teach the critter to talk.

The day after Angelo aged up, he went to graduation. He was awarded the "Most Likely to Fulfill the Lifetime Wish" award. He wants to be super popular. He's almost halfway to his goal of 20 friends. After graduation, the boys all went to the bar so Angelo could have his first grown-up drink. He enjoyed getting to know Sunshine, the bartender.

The group also enjoyed some of the bar games.

Usually after a sims reaches the young adult stage, they get a want to join a particular career. Despite being a workaholic, Angelo has not expressed a desire to join the workforce. However, the family is wealthy, so earning money isn't a priority at this point. He seems to be hinting at wanting to be a photographer, so maybe that's what we'll focus on for a bit. Apparently there's been sightings of a sea monster around the port, and Angelo would like to capture it on film.

Apparently Ella didn't get the memo that you can't visit NPCs in their apartments. I eventually had to reset her, but not before they had a pillow fight and Anne changed into her simbot costume.

The family was just getting settled into this town and getting to know some people when the North Wind came calling on day 9. So off they went. Goodbye, Kit Island.

They landed in Linmeadow (created by pleyita), another small town (unpopulated) and if I recall, the creator intended it for a university town, but the university isn't there in the original map. I've got the university rabbithole rugs though, and since Angelo doesn't really seem to know what he wants to do for a living, maybe college is for him. There are a lot of cheap, nearly identical pre-fab-on-a-slab type of houses, partially furnished (I suspect there are no beds because the house the boys landed in didn't have beds),  and they are looking pretty much like very nice student housing.  This might take a little setup. The boys immediately added a second floor to their house so they could all have their own bedroom.

Time to get working on the set-up.
