Life in Pleasantville - Part 1

Pleasantville is a very small town created by Boring Bones. It was a collaboration with his community, and they built it in 35 days. I think only the hospital was furnished. CJ Plays featured it as one of his world overviews, Pleasantville world overview , and is now making videos where he's furnishing each building. It was such a cute and small world that it felt manageable to play along, furnishing each building he does before watching his videos and seeing how similar or different our visions for the build turn out to be. I enjoy CJ's furnishing videos because he comes up with interesting backstories for characters he envisions living in the spaces.

This world needed rabbithole rugs added to the buildings created to house them, so I added those right away but haven't furnished the buildings yet.

This is the town Austin Butler (son of Sandi French of Sunset Valley and Bernie Butler of the University world) and his wife Kathy La Mer (daughter of Bunny La Mer and Jeff Smith of Barnacle Bay) have just moved to. They bought this little house that came with a blue car. We'll just say it's Kathy's company car given to her when she took the job at City Hall.

The upper floor has a bedroom, bathroom, and room for a desk where Austin can write his books. I had to bump out the wall in the master bedroom because there wasn't a room big enough for a double bed in this house.

The ground floor has a small kitchen and living area. Since this picture was taken, I have added a small bistro table and two chairs in the living area along the stairs, so they would have a table for dining.

Across the street from the house is a lot that Boring Bones labeled as a cafeteria (which is a lot from Into the Future and wasn't functioning the way I wanted, so I designated it as a java hut.) I turned it into three different dining options: an Irish themed coffee shop, an Asian restaurant, and an Italian restaurant.)

I placed the Bistro rug in the Italian restaurant where the yellow spot is.

Even in this remote little town, the paparazzi find him.

Then it was on to the movie theater. (CJ has done this one Movie Theater video .) Here's my version.

"Maybe we should spend some time outdoors this weekend."

"I'd love to take some time away from my computer and novel writing."

"Why do these movies always make science the threat to the human race?"

"That woman's having too much fun. I bet she dies before this movie is over."

"I do envy her ability to be one with nature, though."

"I bet she doesn't die. I bet she marries the mad scientist."

The show is over, time to head home. Kathy has to be at work in the morning.

This world isn't populated yet. I'm thinking of making the families for this world and moving them in since the world is small and manageable for doing this. I will still randomize their traits, because as far as I'm concerned, that's the best way to get interesting characters.

Just to review, Austin is a genius, excitable, loves the cold, a computer whiz, and never nude. He's level 2 in the writing career. Kathy is also a genius. She loves the outdoors, is grumpy, friendly, and a night owl. She's level 2 of the political career.

While no other residents were here when Austin and Kathy arrived, the paparazzi were everywhere, including these who were having a major row in the Butler's front yard.

The aggressive one is Lora Cutler and her "victim" is Clarissa Coles. Lora kept slapping poor Clarissa over . . .

. . . and over,  . . .

Of course Clarissa was bragging about how much money she had. . .

. . .  and making fun of Lora for being homeless . . .

. . . and bragging about the great meal she had the other night . . .

. . . and calling Lora a big baby for not being able to control her own emotions.

The ruckus woke Austin and Kathy up, and Kathy went to investigate.

"Is there a problem here, ladies?"

Kathy is eager to make friends in this town, so she introduced herself to both women, first Lora, then Clarissa. Of course Lora couldn't help be air her disapproval of Kathy's friendliness toward Clarissa.

Of the two, Kathy really wanted to befriend aggressive Lora. Maybe she wanted to see what made her tick. Kathy learned quickly that Clarissa has no sense of humor, but that's not true of Lora.

The Butlers live on a block that has a kids' playground in the middle, so I figured we needed some kids to play there. The next house I furnished was this one.

The size is deceiving. It's really just one floor of living space. However, I managed to squeeze two bedrooms out of it.

The kids' room has a twin bed and a crib, which is good, because as soon as I made this couple and their little girl, the lady of the house up and got pregnant.

Here's the family.

Lawrence Benoit: unflirty, neurotic, daredevil, charismatic, and evil. He wants to be the Emperor of Evil, so he should be quite a treat. There is no criminal career here on the island yet, but I'm sure Lawrence will start something up. I just have to decide what kind of front I want for the criminal career. There's another coffee shop in town, and a bar . . . . For now he chose the Education career. I guess they let anyone work at this school - no background checks or anything!

His wife is Catrina Benoit: hates the outdoors yet adventurous, athletic, equestrian, and like her husband, evil. She chose Law Enforcement for her career. I forgot what her lifetime wish is.

Sweet dreams, Catrina. Their daughter is Danica Benoit, who is a virtuoso, animal lover, and athletic.

The other "large" house I did was this one.

This one has two levels, but still only two bedrooms, though it could be renovated to have a third.

The ground level has a kitchen, bedroom, dining area, living area, and bathroom. This house also features an elevator.

The upper floor has a recreation room, bedroom, bathroom, and an outdoor space large enough for a table and chairs.

This house is inhabited by a woman and her two children, and her current boyfriend Garrett Dean.

Garrett is a workaholic, inappropriate, a heavy sleeper, irresistible, and has commitment issues. He wants to be a master romancer, woohooing with 5 different sims in 5 different places. This dude is so full of himself that he wear his own face on his T-shirt!  He is also in the Education career - like I said, they are hard-up and will take ANYONE!

His long-suffering girlfriend, Melissa Blackmon is also in the Education career, so maybe the couple moved here together to take the teaching jobs no one wanted. What Melissa really wants to do is be a Master of Mysticism. She has a good sense of humor, is a social butterfly, eco friendly, grumpy, and lucky. She has two boys from a previous relationship, (but I forgot about my plan and used random genetics, so they may have some resemblance to that no-account Garrett as they grow up.)

I haven't played this household yet, but just dropped in on them to take pictures for this post. I found Melissa at the java hut and Garrett at the movie theater, but guess who else was at the movie theater.
Melissa's son Alex. I really think Alex idolizes Garrett and is starving for a father figure. It's notable that he went to the movies with Garrett while his brother Billy chose to stay home. Maybe they have different attitudes toward Garrett.

Judging by the fact that Alex wanted to hang out with Garrett and has the same purple highlights as Garrett, I think it's safe to assume that he wants to be just like Garrett when he grows up.  So far Alex has a good sense of humor, loves the heat, and is artistic.

I assume, since Billy chose to stay home rather than go to the movies, that he isn't a fan of Garrett. Billy is a workaholic, vehicle enthusiast, and party animal. It's hard to tell which one will be the biggest troublemaker when he gets older. I'm also curious to see which of the brothers Danica Benoit forms the closest relationship with.

There are a few more houses that I've completed, both were also done by CJ. The first one is the starter home. CJ kept his a starter home. I think I went a little over budget. I could have sworn I took pictures of this one, but alas, I haven't. I guess I'll show it off next time.

The other one CJ did was the one I call the green house. He had a really unique backstory for this one. Mine isn't as flashy. I picture a single woman and toddler. I don't know much more about them than this because I haven't made them yet, but I know the mother loves bold colors. I created a color challenge for myself with this one. I had a randomizer choose 4 colors for me to use in this house. Here are the names and hex codes of the colors in case you are interested:

Light Green - 84C3BE (this one looks more aqua or turquois to me in the game - the color of the bathroom walls and the kitchen counters.)
Chrome Green - 2E3A23 (the color of the master bedroom walls.)
Salmon Range - E55137 (the color of the walls in the main living area.)
Olive Yellow - 999950 ( the color of the walls in the baby's room.)

Here's the house.

There's a freeze level or some CFE voodoo, so this house only has one level despite it looking larger.

I hate the picture on the wall in this shot and never use it, but somehow, this seems to work in this situation.

I went with an animal theme for the baby's room.

The pictures on the wall really help brighten up this dark bedroom. I don't know what to tell you about the hole in the ceiling. Going a floor up doesn't show the hole.

I love the tree thingy on the back wall. I usually use in in coffee shops. It's found under lighting of all things.

The bathroom definitely needs work - to monochromatic. Maybe turn the cabinet to a wood texture and the shower tiles back to white. As for the hole above the shower, I couldn't cover it for some reason. I'm calling it a "skylight." It has a roof over it from the outside.

This house also has a bee box outside, so I guess whoever lives here will be a beekeeper.

That's it for now.
