The trouble with Sims weddings when you don't control all the parties involved and everyone is on high free will is they never quite turn out like you imagine they will. The wedding of Rocco and Mary is a fine example.
Braden Childs did his best to provide a lovely venue for the couple.
For some reason you can't throw a wedding party at your house unless it's your own wedding, so he had to call it a house party, but he bought a wedding cake. He invited several people - including Ivanna Groove, whom he kissed at the bachelor party.
I suspected there would be issues getting everyone there on time, but I figured if I could make sure the bride and groom arrived, rest could fend for themselves. Braden scheduled the party for around 5 pm. Then it occurred to me that Mary works in the music career and would probably be working then if I didn't intercept her. So I did. And we got her a pretty wedding dress, and I sent her to the party.
Here's the bride, but where is the groom? Rocco works as a private investigator so he shouldn't be tied up with work.
"Where's Rocco? Did you forget to invite him?!?" Bridezilla hissed.
"I assure you, Mary, I did invite him. I'm sure he will be along soon." Braden countered.
"Well, if he doesn't show up, you will have to be my groom, big boy. I didn't get all gussied up for nothing," she said seductively. (At first I was worried that Rocco might do sweet Mary wrong, but now I think it's the other way around.)
"I'm sure he'll be here," Braden said defensively.
He's still not here. Braden can't believe he spent money on this fiasco. I switched to Rocco at this point to locate him and make him come to the party. In Roccco's defense, he was on his way, but he chose to plug along in a sailboat, and go ALL THE WAY AROUND THE ISLANDS to get there rather than taking a car. By the time he got there, Mary was fed up, hopped in her speedboat and headed for home. The party had ended. I took hold of Mary and sent her back. By then it was getting dark, some of the guests had gone home, but a few stuck around to witness the nuptials. Rocco didn't bother to dress up, and I didn't want to risk changing his clothes.
As soon as the vows were said, Mary immediately changed clothes and took out her guitar. Hold on! You haven't cut the cake yet! I changed her back into her wedding gown for the cake cutting, but my game must be glitching, because she changed her hairstyle, and the old style was nowhere to be found.
"Yay! Cake! Cake! Cake! Cake!" the guests chanted.
Mary must still be a little irritated with Rocco because she refused to sit with him to eat her cake.
Instead Ivanna Groove sat with him.
Rocco wasn't the only one Mary was mad at. She didn't think much of Braden's wedding planning skills. Maybe the cake was bought cheap from the day-old pastry rack.
Young Noah Dawkins wasn't impressed after eating the cake either. After all, he went through the trouble of bringing a turkey to the shindig, and he wasn't even invited!
I bet his mother cooked the turkey and sent him to deliver it.
"I could have been home watching TV instead of being here eating stale cake!" he exclaimed. (I checked the cake and it was of normal quality, so I don't know what these people are complaining about.)
As the party wound down and people started for home, Ivanna Groove suggested Braden go jogging with her some morning.
Then she playfully sprayed him with nectar.
This isn't a bachelor party, so I don't know if Ivanna can do this because she's a party dancer or if it's just a weird glitch.
I had story progression on, so this wasn't the only wedding that took place recently - just the only one witnessed.
I had forgotten these guys weren't married yet.
While some were tying the knot, others were just getting started in their relationships.
We also have a couple back on the nest.
The day after the wedding, Rocco and Mary went to the summer festival. Mary played for tips, but no one paid her any mind. Rocco decided to stake the place out to see if he could spot any unsavory characters.
"I'm sure there must be some crime around here, but I'm just no seeing it."
Perhaps he's just looking in the wrong place. Late one night. Anna was awaken by a horrible noise.
Anna was trying to decide if she should be the one to take Joann down, or if she should wait for the on-duty police to do it.
Jo Escobedo is on the case!
"Which of you ladies should I beat up first?" Joann wonders.
Deciding it wouldn't do for a child to witness his own mother being violent, Jo takes the initiative.
"Git 'er Jo, git 'er good!" Anna exclaims.
Bleary eyed and not fully awake, little Graham asks, "Mom, why is it so noisy? I can't sleep!"
Crisis averted.
Back to Rocco and Mary. I wonder if Rocco is thinking about starting a family.
I wonder what kind of dad he'd be.
After their day at the festival, Rocco and Mary checked into the Anchor Inn.
Bubba Askew was also checking in. You'd better not have Betsy waiting in the car, Bucko! Actually, I think he came alone.
Myra was also here, getting into a heated conversation with Vince Howard.
Myra was wondering if Bubba had been flirting with the lady at the front desk. Rocco was tired and decided to go to the room and watch TV while Mary enjoyed some time relaxing by the pool. Mary spotted Bubba going into the gym and followed him.
She recognized him as a potential sugar daddy, and began flirting with him. I think he was just planning on meeting someone to play chess. He was taken aback at her brazenness. "She must be a prostitute," he thought.
"Out of curiosity, how much do you charge for your services, young lady?"
"EXCUSE ME?!? I am NOT that kind of girl!" she retorts. Time to go find your husband, Mary.
Unfortunately, that's the last time we see old Bubba alive.
I dropped in on the Askew household to see how they were taking the news. No one was grieving.
Nobody was particularly torn up about it. Maybe they were relieved that their major source of conflict had moved on.
While I was with them, I noticed that Yvonne was not only reading a pregnancy book, but rereading it. I think her biological clock is ticking. I checked her relationships panel, and she doesn't have any love interests. She's friends with a couple guys - Hector Lance and another, but she wanted to pillowfight with James Russell, so I thought I'd try to get them together. She called James to invite him out to the new arcade, Past Time, but he was at work, and wouldn't be off for awhile. While Yvonne was waiting for him, she stopped into Cuddlefish Mews for a drink with her coworkers.
It was there I discovered that paperboy Chip Hurtado had aged up to a teen and was checking to see if his fake ID would work.
Staci's boys were there playing darts.
Nikki kind of looked like she had one too many, and was spilling her sorrows to the bartender. She happened to bring little Karen with her. Luckily Karen was playing behind the bar, oblivious to her mother's situation.
Ruth was accusing Doug Lilies of being a moron, and he liked it.
"Yes, this woman is paying attention to me!" he enthused.
"You really shouldn't be insulting people's intelligence like that," Yvonne reprimanded.
"I was only kidding! I think he's kinda cute." Ruth replied.
I'm not sure Doug is a merman anymore. I saw him at the summer festival and he didn't have scales on his legs.
Maybe it's a glitch, and maybe not.
But I digress; from across the crowded room, Yvonne laid eyes on a guy with very loud ruby red pants.
Her heart skipped a beat.
"What beautiful ruby-red pants you have!" she said coyly.
"Thanks, they're my favorites. My grandma gave them to me for Christmas." he responded.
Yvonne soon learned his name was Davis Thornton, and he worked as a consignment specialist at Clownfish Court Shopping Center. She decided she'd better gussy up to attract this colorful creature.
The bar was crowded and Yvonne is a loner, so she asked Davis if he's like to go somewhere quieter - like her house. He readily agreed.
They were flirting and getting along well, but when Yvonne suddenly kissed Davis, he became upset. "I'm not your boy-toy! At least make this feel like a real date! Maybe we can slow it down and look at the stars together or something?"
"I'm sorry, you're right. Can you forgive a lonely, love-starved woman?"
They smoothed out their differences and had a lovely night looking at the stars. First from the front porch, then from the back patio.
Yvonne then went in and made some hot drinks, while Davis snooped around the house. She found him up in the nursery that had never been used by her family.
"I would love to fill this house with the pitter-patter of little feet, she confessed. I know we're moving extremely fast, but I was wondering if you would consider having a child with me. I think you would be a fantastic father, and I won't expect any responsibilities from you beyond tonight. What do you think?"
Luckily for Yvonne, Davis is family oriented. They did the deed and the chimes were heard. She invited Davis to stay the night, and he did, but since her parents were also in the house, he elected to sleep in the guest bedroom until he gave them a chance to get to know him.
The next morning, Davis ran into Billy, and introduced himself.
"I just wanted you to know, I really like your daughter. We might even be getting serious." Davis confessed.
"Who is this guy?" Billy wondered.
They thought they'd break the ice by playing ping pong together.
Davis is quite competitive. Maybe he should have let the old man win.
Later that day, Billy went to the cemetery to collect Bubba's ashes. (I dropped a mausoleum on the lot for just such emergencies.) While he was there, I looked over at the trailer court and spotted Myra and Doug Lilies.
The map overview indicated a party going on at the yellow trailer, but it seemed pretty quiet to me.
The trailer is occupied by Salvador Franks and his wife. They are an elderly couple.
Doug thanked her for her efforts to keep the town safe. Myra was overcome with gratitude that SOMEONE appreciated her hard work, and she tried to give him a big hug, which startled him.
"Don't apprehend me officer Burkhart! I didn't do anything illegal!"
"Don't be silly! This isn't a cop and robber's video game! It was just a hug for crying out loud! Here's some flowers to make up for the fright."
"Right back at ya, Officer Burkhart!"
"Call me Myra, please, Doug."
"Woo! Officer Burkhart and I are on a first name basis!" Doug enthused.
"Thank you for the flowers, Doug."
What a strange pair.
Since he was in the neighborhood, Billy stopped by Salvador's house to see if there really was a party. There wasn't. He took a few minutes to get to know the old guy and explain he had just come from the cemetery and that his brother had recently passed away.
Then they talked about fishing for sharks. I think you are both a little too old to take up scuba diving, guys.
Billy was getting hungry and wondered if Salvador had anything to eat.
Since Yvonne took up with Davis instead of James Russell, we hadn't got to see the Past Time arcade up close.
I went to take a peek inside. It wasn't very busy since I didn't have any active Sims on the lot to push others to it, but there was a paparazzo named Jeanette Belcher, who was curious too.
I noticed the default stools and chairs after I took this picture, so I went back and changed them to something that better fit the vibe.
She looked like she was having a good time.
As for James Russell, he moved off the boat and took up residence in the little fisherman's cabin.
Meanspirited Osvaldo kicked him out, it seems. I haven't given James much attention. Maybe I'll visit him next installment.
I spent some time with Steve and Anna Rajkupal since each time I switched to them however briefly, Steve was wanting to be a fireman. Now that we have a fire station, I wanted to test it to make sure everything worked. Steve went to the fire station and joined up. He told his son Graham the it was really important for firemen to stay in peak physical condition, and so he was going to go to the gym and work out really hard in order to be ready for his first day of work.
Graham isn't as keen on exercise as his father. But he did take a swim in the pool while Anna watched him.
Then she took Graham to the summer festival. When she got there, however, she received a text from Hector Lance, inviting her to a pool party. Now she and Hector are friends, but Steve really dislikes, him because he was blatantly trying to steal Anna away from him earlier. However, what Steve doesn't know can't hurt him, right?
Hannah left Graham to amuse himself while she went to the party. To be fair, she behaved herself when she was there. I think Hector was too busy entertaining his guests to engage in any funny business.
Meanwhile, Graham made a new friend - Jan Killian. I wonder if they will grow up to be sweethearts.
After his intense workout, Steve went to the Firehouse Cafe for a bite to eat.
The next day was Steve's first day of work. Steve is living the dream now.
The first day of work must have been hat day. A couple of his coworkers were sporting their favorites.
He made a point of meeting all his coworkers and started getting to know them.
He and Tana Edward already were acquaintances from somewhere.
Of course he was also in charge of maintenance, and the truck and alarms needed maintenance frequently. He never got called out on a fire, but he did go round up some angry gnomes.
"Come on little fella, you don't belong here. Let's go get you some therapy."
Steve spent the first night on the job at the fire station, so he missed the late night visitor who came to check out the tomato plant.
Yep, that's a tomato, alright. I'd like to point out this is the same house where Staci was abducted by aliens. There must be something about this house that draws them.
Exciting things always seem to happen to the Rajkupal family members. One day Anna was looking for a gift to get for Steve to celebrate his new job. Being curious, she climbed the stairs in the florist shop. . . .
Be careful Anna. These things can be dangerous!
Don't go for the cake, Anna, it's a trick!
No Anna! No! No!
Anna!
Too late! As I was waiting for Grim to appear . . . .
I don't know what the Cow Plant thought made her disgusting unless it was her ringing phone.
Meanwhile downstairs, Bianca was not liking the offerings of Bell Book and Candle.
Anna came down and found one of the sales staff from the mall - a man with red pants. "
Come with me sir, I want to show you something."
"I don't know who this thing belongs to, but it's a public menace! Make sure someone feeds it regularly, and block off customer access to the stairs!"
That's if for now. I'll leave you with a few pictures from the summer festival.
RIP Bubba.
