With all the problems with the EA App, I decided to use my old Aspen and Vinny save to gradually bring things back. Aspen and Vinny were my 4 seasons challenge couple, who then married, went to university, and returned to Storybrook County (Lite) to start a family.
Vinny used some lifetime wish points to get his "best friend" Gary.
Baby Bernard was born last time I played, and Gary-the-lonely-Simbot was looking for love and found it with Maria Killian.
In this installment, I learned that their little tryst in the elevator resulted in the birth of a baby girl named Jan. (I wasn't sure simbots could reproduce with humans biologically.) Maria was created via Story Progression and moved into the town. Why, you might ask, would a human female fall for this rusty bucket of bolts? I learned why when Gary went to visit his girlfriend and baby who had taken up residence in a tiny shabby shack in the country.
Maria, it turns out, has a thing for robots. She is handy, a computer whiz, an angler, nurturing, and has a good sense of humor. Her lifetime wish is to create a sentient plumbot. While Gary isn't pretty, he is sentient. Maria works in the science career, and most of her initial wishes were to learn how to make a plumbot. She is definitely the girl for Gary, but I also wonder if she will stay with him if she accomplishes her dream.
Gary asked her out on a date, and she showed up in her bikini. To be fair, the weather forecast said it would get up to 102 F that day. Maria found Gary at the dumpster where he had been dumpster diving while he waited for her.
I wasn't controlling Maria at this point as she wasn't in my household. Gary and Maria took a quick tour of the comic book store before going to SimFest together. It was in the comic book store that I spotted Maria having it out with Royce Nielsen. She clearly didn't like him.
Later, as she and Gary were crossing the street, I saw that she felt betrayed. Gary, who didn't see the altercation, was wondering what was up with her.
I was later informed that Royce married Fatima, and I suspect that he was an ex-boyfriend of Maria's.
At any rate, Gary and Maria settled in and were enjoying the show . . . .
When a couple of dudes show up claiming they reserved the table. They were clearly mistaken.
I assume Ronny Gordon, the guy in the striped shirt, was using this as a ploy to meet Maria - like the George Strait's iconic song, "The Chair:"
Well, excuse me, but I think you've got my chair
No, that one's not taken, I don't mind if you sit here
I'll be glad to share
Yeah, it's usually packed here on Friday nights
Oh, if you don't mind, could I talk you out of a light?
Sure enough, Gary got up to relieve himself, and Ronny's wingman followed him into the bathroom.
Meanwhile, Ronny sat down at the table with Maria.
Gary came back, got very angry with Ronny, and hurled some insults.
Ronny tried to diffuse the situation by telling Gary about the fabulous shrimp dish this establishment offers. (Ronny is clearly a lover, not a fighter.)
Gary said he prefers tofu shrimp,
and asked Ronny for money so he could buy some. (This was not scripted, I was just watching. Playing on high free will, creates some fun scenarios.) In the end, Ronny gave Gary 9 simoleons.
The date went quite well; Gary and Maria found themselves outside the elevator where they first had their tryst.
Gary didn't like the idea of his girlfriend and little daughter living in squalor, and decided to pop the question.
They decided to get married the next day and start their life together. Their wedding had it's challenges. One guest disgraced herself by peeing on the floor. Which interrupted the proceedings.
And it appears that Maria still isn't over Royce marrying Fatima. . . .
Vinny had to work, so Aspen went to the wedding with her friend Betty. (I see Ronny made an appearance to wish the couple well. What a good sport!)
Gary, moved out from Aspen and Vinny's high-rise, and built a roomy yet modest family home. Maria's dog Mr. Pibbles, seems confused about the situation. Is that pile of tin supposed to be a human?
Gary plans on adding to the house and increasing the furnishings as time goes on and he earns more money. He quickly learns, this may take longer than expected when Maria informs him that she is pregnant again. He hopes to win the lottery to get some of the money he will need to support his growing family. . . .
But he's excited about the new baby.
Instead of playing the lottery, he decides to try his luck at the poker tables.
He lost 60 simoleons. It wasn't much later that baby Brogan was born. Gary built himself a workshop and started inventing. Maybe he could sell some of this stuff at the marketplace and help support his family. It was constantly raining, and I finally had to go shut it off as poor Gary would go out to collect scrap from the scrapyard and short out!
Time flies by, and before you know it, the kids are aging up.
They just had a small party with friends and family. Now Jan is old enough to go to the marketplace with her father, where he sells his wares on the weekends.
Jan spends her time playing chess and hanging out with Reggie Muller, who is hogging the lemonade stand even though he has no lemonade to sell. They became friends, and he calls to chat frequently.
Jan's a bit of a loner, so I'm glad she made a friend. Who knows, maybe they'll get married when they grow up. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Jan also likes solitary play at the Kid's Castle park near her house.
Soon she will be a teen and her baby brother will be a child.
Now on to what Aspen and Vinny are doing.
Vinny seems to be enjoying his firefighting career - it's what he's always wanted to do.
Aspen was a doctor, but somewhere down the line, she switched to science. Here she is trying to convince this poor woman to swallow this huge horse pill as a way of participating in an experimental study.
The woman said, "No!" (Good choice.) I think it was Aspen who elected to participate in an experimental study at work, and I got the message that it didn't go well. I'm not sure what happened, so I will need to follow up and see if she's changed in any way.
The problem with living in a high-rise is I always forget to check the mailbox and pay the bills. They got a surprise visit from the repo-lady, which left poor Aspen dumbfounded as she was sure Vinny was responsible for paying the bills, then in comes this woman and interrupts her lunch preparation!
Vinny, on the other hand, thought the lady was hot. Her name is Annette Lam.
She mostly stole their family pictures from the wall, which was an odd choice. Annette was clearly enjoying her job too much!
Aspen is a loner, and enjoys solitude. Watch for the sharks, Aspen.
Bernard is a child now, but I guess he hasn't done anything noteworthy that warrants taking a screenshot.
Since both Aspen and Maria are in the science field, and Maria wants to learn about plumbots, I decided to build the Institute of Technology and Innovation and include the science rabbithole in it, so I wouldn't have to send her to the future if I didn't want to, and for now I don't. Sims can walk into the building and engage in a variety of science and research activities to build their skills.
The rabbithole rug is directly in front of the stairs.

I have lots of ideas for this lot - ideas that include secret passages underground leading to time machines, and subways connecting this lot with a science dome for growing unusual plants and an observatory where sims can join the astronomy profession. I also have a storyline idea for exploring various extraterrestrial worlds.
Maria went to the institute on her day off and bought a plumbot skill book. She read a few chapters and then tried using the machine to design nanites and processors, but didn't have much luck.
I guess she'd better do some more reading. Meanwhile, Jan found a Sim to play chess with.
Next time, the kids age up.
