North Wind Legacy: Polly's Life and Polly's Curse
North Wind Curse Origin Story
Polly Maloney had a charmed life as a child. Born and raised in Bridgeport, the daughter of a wealthy, but snobbish and hot-headed businessman who owned one of the premiere apartment buildings of its time, Polly never expected that she was in for a bumpy ride.
As a teen, she fell for the son of the family's butler, Jasen Aguilar. Her parents found out about them, and her father blew his stack. He forbade her to see Jasen anymore, but when Polly stood up to him, he promptly fired the butler and drove him and Jasen from the house. Then he disinherited Polly. Polly's mother was a timid woman who always went along with her husband. To insure that she was separated from Jasen, Polly was sent off to LeFromage Art School, a boarding school in France. (Jasen eventually ended up following in his father's footsteps and became a butler for the Clary family in Monte Vista.)
Over time, Polly fell in line to her father's wishes, and once she became a "sensible" young adult, he decided to reinstate her as heir to his fortune. Unfortunately, as Polly's parents were on their way to the lawyer's office to do so, they got into a terrible automobile accident and both perished, leaving poor Polly penniless.
Struggling with only a part-time job at the bookstore, and knowledge of how to get into the basement of her parents' apartment building, (where she and Jasen used to rendezvous), Polly became one of the poorest residents of Bridgeport. She earned extra income from dumpster diving and collecting found objects.
Polly was not without friends, however, and became really close with Matty Crewe, a co-worker at the bookstore. Matty was an aspiring artist and musician who lived in a high rise apartment with several of his musician friends. Both Matty and Polly are artistic, bookworms, and frugal. Polly jumped at the chance when Matty offered to let her move in with him and his friends, and the pair soon became lovers. Polly took up the guitar and even played in public a little.
Over time, Matty and Polly decided to get their own apartment, a small, dated high rise, and Polly tried her hand at writing books. After living there awhile and not getting anywhere in their careers, Polly and Matty decided to move to another town. They compiled a wish list of places they would like to see and put them in a hat. Polly drew out Kingsbury, a quaint English village she had read about in a travel magazine. She thought this little town might jumpstart her creativity and give her new story ideas. With only a few thousand simoleons to work with, they settled into a rodent-infested youth hostel and continued their bohemian lifestyle.
Matty earned his keep by doing yard work around the hostel, and Polly, being an expert at rodent trapping from her time spent on the streets and in the alleys of Bridgeport, earned some extra money by catching and selling squirrels and chipmunks. (Squirrels brought 20 simoleons each, but chipmunks brought 121 simoleons, and there were literally at least a dozen every day) The couple made a lot of friends and lost one roommate to a kitchen fire. (It seems those fighting the fire were so focused on it and their own hunger that they didn't notice that she had caught fire until it was too late for her.)
Molly slept through most of it, and seemed oddly uninterested in the goings on in the other room.
It wasn't too long until Polly realized she was pregnant. It seemed her mind was only on that for the most part, and she spent a majority of her time rocking by the fire.
While she was pregnant, however, Polly visited the festival grounds and was drawn to the haunted house. (She kept going through it even when I tried canceling the actions and redirecting her to other things.) She went through the haunted house so many times that she was attacked by a mummy, haunted, sucked into the 4th dimension, and cursed by a witch. She came out a ghost, then went into labor and delivered little Maxwell while still in the ghost phase.
This is the start of the North Winds Curse. At this point Polly and her heir Maxwell, who is a living human but born of a ghost, are allowed to live their lives until a fateful, random day when the North Wind forces them to move. They will get a warning and given 24 hours to settle things before they wake up in a new random place, cut off by all they know and love. They can only take heirs, and must leave all other family members behind; they are allowed one pet and one vehicle and 5 items in each of their backpacks. This and the money they have accrued are all they can take with them, and they can never return to where they came from or contact the loved ones there, or those loved ones will die. This curse will carry to 10 generations.
But for now, everything is rainbows and roses. Raising a baby in a youth hostel isn't as difficult as it seems because there are so many people around willing to help out with the baby's needs. The hostel was fine for raising a baby, but the couple knew they would need to do something different soon. As luck would have it, both of them had accrued enough lifetime happiness points to earn the inheritance reward. Matty combined his inheritance money with what they already had and purchased a little house which they remodeled, adding an extra bedroom that would accommodate a full size bed.
At this point Maxwell has become a toddler and learned the xylophone, how to use the potty, and how to walk.
Maxwell is disciplined and easily impressed. He favors Dark Wave music, eggrolls, and the color aqua.
Matty aged up to an adult, and a day after his birthday, Polly threw a party for him. It went over well. However, one of Polly's "distant friends," Vicki Greenburg was showing signs of wanting to steal Matty away. Matty kept busy playing his piano, which kept Vicki at bay.
It just so happened that this night had a full moon, and apparently Vicki became zombified!
Poor Vicki got no respect from anyone!
Matty and Polly are starting day 15 of their life in Kingsbury. They are thinking of starting a musical duo once Maxwell is old enough to take care of his own needs.
They are also nurturing Maxwell's interest in music.
