4 Season #6: Aspen and Vinny - Spring is here - time to plan the wedding
It's time to plan for the wedding that will take place, hell or high water, on the first day of Summer, when the 4 season challenge is over. I'm not much of a wedding planner and my public weddings have had mixed results (See below), but I usually have the lifespan set shorter and haven't been quite as invested in most of my characters. I want to give these guys a nice wedding that suits their personalities. Of course, I'm fine if there's a little drama as is customary in Sims games.
Previous weddings:
Aspen is a loner, with only a small circle of friends, so the wedding will be an intimate affair with just a few people invited. However, she is also frugal, so she won't spring for an exclusive party, and whoever shows up, shows up. Because she's frugal, we won't be doing any CC shopping for the dress - just what she can get from the thrift-store (standard content). I'll ask you to help her "Say yes to the dress" in another posting after I have put together a few options. Aspen is more interested in putting the money into getting a HOUSE or apartment so she doesn't have to sleep in a tent or igloo. Aspen also loves the outdoors, so I'm thinking of a venue where they can have the ceremony and reception outdoors, but with an indoor option should the weather turn foul. Other traits Aspen has include bookworm and nurturing. She is also slightly associated with the nerd social group and seems to enjoy gardening and fishing quite a bit.
Vinny is a nerd, brave, charismatic, lucky, light sleeper, and couch potato. His favorite color is green. (I forget Aspen's, but their favorite colors will be their wedding colors.)
Today, I am considering venues for various events.
I'm thinking Aspen will have her bachelorette party at Bonfire Beach - the name speaks for itself, not much there but a bonfire, a few lounge chairs, and a firepit. She will invite her friend Kisha and maybe a female acquaintance or two. She'll purchase a juice keg.
Charismatic Vinny, on the other hand, will throw his bachelor party at the Casino, so he and the guys can drink and play poker. I'm also considering remodeling the top floor that opens out to the pool with a bridal suite and maybe one or two other overnight rooms. (This is option #1 for the wedding night.)
Here's where I want your help: I'm trying to decide on a venue for the wedding. Here's what you need to know about the town: It is Storybrook County and started empty. I am putting my 10x10 challenge lots in it along with various venues I either bought or downloaded but hadn't played much. I have a bunch of venues I built and use over and over in various games, but they were getting stale, so I'm trying to stick with new or little used lots in this world. Here are the choices:
First up is the Deliciously Indulgent Bakery. It has some outdoor areas but so far it's the lowest on my option list.
Next is the Al Fresco Market. I would remove the carts and stands for the event, add a wedding arch, seating, and banquet table, and decorate it in the couple's favorite colors.
The sanitorium gardens are also pretty. I would remove some of the formal flowerbeds to make room for a wedding arch and table for the cake.
Then there's this "coffee house" venue I downloaded many years ago from the Exchange before I started building my own venues. This place needs a lot of work, but has a lot of potential. I've been planning on renovating it after the challenge anyway, but hadn't settled on what exactly I wanted to do with it. I'm thinking of turning it into a hotel with an events room, bridal suite and two other overnight rooms, and possibly a restaurant and/or coffee shop. (This is also option #2 for where the couple spends their wedding night.)
It has a lot of outdoor space - it even currently has some banquet tables. Currently, the bottom floor is the coffee shop,
the middle floor is a comic's/nerd hangout? (It has a comic book register.)
and the upper floor looks like it was intended to be a dance club of some kind.
The original didn't have a bathroom, so I added those after one of my Sims made a mad dash to the place to use the public restroom only to find there wasn't one!
I'm thinking of replacing the stairs with an elevator, making the bottom floor the check-in and events center, the middle floor a restaurant or coffee shop, and the upper level the bridal suite and other rooms.
Then there's always McCreedy Falls where the pond is and where Balin the unicorn makes an appearance from time to time. I could set it up as a wedding venue with arch, seating, tented pavilions with tables . . .
Of course they could just get married on their home lot, but I think they are getting tired of the place.
Let me know where you think they should get married. Either post comments here or respond on the Facebook Sims 3 main page where I have included a poll.
