4 Seasons Challenge #1

A group of friends who recently graduated from high school decided to take a gap year before attending college. Aspen Colorado, a loner and bookworm by nature, was deeply influenced by the early American authors such as David Thoreau and Walt Whitman.  She loves the outdoors, so she decided to try to recreate her own Walden experience by spending all four seasons living simply, trying to raise here own food and live off the land. Many scoffed at her idea, but one guy, Vinny Winnebago, was intrigued. Being a naturally brave and lucky individual, but somewhat of a couch potato, he decided to go along for the experience - and to verify that Aspen didn't cheat then claim she succeeded.

They rented a field near a pond known for it's good fishing, and vowed to do their best to live off the land. The land owner told them that they could build no permanent structures - a portable greenhouse was the most they could hope for.  But they had a good tent and two sleeping bags, and a set out on the project with high spirits. The first thing they bought was a portable firepit, which upset Aspen to some degree because she is very frugal and thought it might be a waste of money.

She soon found that it was a necessity in order to make her experiment work.  They spent the next few days eating fish for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as they were unable to find any seeds or plants in the wild ready for harvest.  The most that they found was a beetle worth 26 simoleons and two spotlight mushrooms.

So far they have chosen to sleep under the stars at night, . . .

but are now both dealing with sunburn and lack of funds to purchase a porta-potty.  They have been having to venture into town to do their business.  They have located a gym where they can shower and take a break from the relentless sun, but they need to keep fishing and trying to locate seeds.  Will they last? Time will tell.

More details to come.
