I Love Old People challenge #1
I Love Old People challenge #1
I built the retirement home and created the residents. I mostly randomized and didn't bother with the clothing creation. I "rolled the dice" on the traits and tossed the lamer ones in favor of the recommended traits I set up - (so instead of hates art, they might have hot-headed, for instance). I introduced the characters and showed the layout on the previous post.
Some things of note:
- In the dining room I chose bistro tables with two chairs at each rather than a big table that all could sit at because I wanted to watch and see who chose to sit with whom.
- I changed the bed covers of each resident to show their favorite color. I think in a few Sim days their personal belongings will arrive (I'm going to allow 3 decor items from the buy mode for each resident - after I get more familiar with them and start envisioning their individual back stories - or better yet, maybe I'll randomize what each Sim gets and create their backstories based on their personalities and the items they receive.
- I'm going to send each resident out to get a job, work it for a day or two, and then have them retire so we have some income. Then I will lock the doors and start taking them on outings 2 - 3 times a week.
- I'm just testing this out, so I will adjust my "rules" as I go.
Amir (in the blue hat) immediately made some sugar cookies (horrible quality) and someone else made some regular quality spaghetti (I think). All Sims made a beeline for the cookies. Dara, (the flirty, party animal lady who wants to be a heartbreaker) immediately took up with Darron, the guy with the unstable personality. (She thought he was hot!) They had a nice conversation over cookies, then went upstairs to sit and rock together.
I think they will become fast friends (possibly with benefits) in the near future. However, Dara also thinks Amir is hot. Shawn (the surly kleptomaniac) thinks Heather (the lady who wants to be a psychic) is hot.
Amir and Shawn clearly got off to a rocky start, but Dara stepped in to try and diffuse the situation. "This is a fresh start for all of us; let's all try to get along, okay?"
Meanwhile, Heather wanted to join the psychic career so I sent her to do it. Instead of a seasons festival I took the renaissance festival grounds and expanded them, adding the fortune teller, food booths, a stage, photo booth, face painting booth, and the eating contest - though maybe it is a festival grounds now as I'm sure I placed the hotdog eating contest, but it's fall and Heather came home looking like this:
The old folks like their rocking chairs and their sweets. The next morning Amelia got up early and went down to the dining hall and prepared some mushroom omelets of normal quality and set them out for the residents. However, Dara came in shortly afterwards and made some horrible orange pie. Guess what the residents chose to eat:
It appears that Darron and Shawn are getting along fine - at least for now. Even Amelia's husband Eric chose Dara's horrible pie over his wife's healthy choice. By the way, Eric has the never nude trait, but apparently has no sense of what is appropriate attire for the dining hall.
The residents seem pretty willing to clean up after themselves, which is good.
As for Amelia and Eric, I intend to mostly control them and just watch the others, but we'll see. One of my "rules" is that the caretaker couple will produce at least one child (engineered, adopted, or biological). Rather than "try for a baby" I decided to do the "risky woohoo" and possibly give them some time as a couple before starting a family. I also furnished their apartment with their favorite colors - not a lot of clutter yet, because I don't know them well enough. But I digress . . . Amelia and Eric were standing in their apartment when they decided to woohoo. I thought they would go to the most obvious choice - the bed, or maybe get a little more creative and use the shower, but no . . .
I wonder what this says about them as a couple. Would eccentric and avant garde prompt them to woohoo in the elevator when there are more obvious alternatives? I'm looking forward to what the day brings. My goal is to get everyone employed except the caretakers.
