The Life and Times of Sandi French, Part 11 - Two weddings and on to new things.

Well it happened. Bernie Butler became an elder.

He and Sandi decided to retire and move somewhere else to enjoy their golden years. Bernie's retirement was very low-key. One paparazzi with strange fashion sense helped him celebrate.

Sandi, on the other hand, had several people celebrate with her.

I was going through their family inventory and was shocked to find this contraption.

It comes with university, and I've been wanting one forever to use in my science builds, but the only way I could figure out to get it was to go to University and save the entire lot to the library - I couldn't get the item and add it to an existing lot. I can only assume Sandi got this when she obtained her lifetime wish. We'll explore this item further in a moment.

First, the young men of the household decided it was time to leave the old folks and start their own families.

Lucky Butler proposed to his girlfriend Holli Darwin in front of the Little Roses Lounge.

She said yes.
"Don't worry about the details of the ceremony. Just enjoy shopping for your dress. I've got this all figured out," Lucky said.

Lucky got the cake, arranged the renting of the wedding room at the back of Little Roses, and planned the buffet offerings.

He did make one unfortunate faux pas, however. He had the wedding time as 1 pm on the invitations, but the place wasn't open until 2 pm. The bride was not happy with him.

"What kind of lame brain doesn't  check the times when reserving a wedding venue!?! Don't you try to make any excuses for this. There are no excuses!"

An hour isn't that long to stand around outside and read books while waiting. The biggest concern was for Thor, the fledgling vampire, who wasn't supposed to stand out in the sun for any length of time.

He denied that he was a vampire, but Lucky could see that he was terribly pale. "Maybe you should go home for an hour, then come back," he suggested. "I'm awfully sorry about the mix-up."

"Is the wedding still on? Have you forgiven me?" Lucky asked Holli.
"You're forgiven," she sighed.

Austin was tickled pink to witness his best friend take his vows.

The old folks were easily distracted and didn't pay attention. Sandi left the building in search of coffee.

But she showed up in time for cake.

The guests were getting restless, so Holli cut the cake while Lucky set up the buffet. I should have set up some tables out in the garden area for them to enjoy their cake, but I thought they would just sit in their seats and eat. They found their way to the lounge's dining area, being the resourceful sims they are.

The happy couple rounded out the night with a duet before returning to Holli's house. (She was living alone with a cat. I set the place up so little Bernie Jr. could live with them. The family thought it best since Sandi and Bernie Sr. aren't getting any younger, and Lucky has really bonded with the boy.)

I saved Lucky Butler, Holli, and Bernie Jr. to the bin and will be placing them in the Sunlit Tides save. Holli loves the outdoors, is nurturing, and favors beach music and key lime pie, while Lucky loves the heat and loves to swim, so it seemed only logical that this newly formed family move to a tropical paradise.

That night, Sandi, Bernie, and Austin went home and messed around with the science object. I've never messed with it much, but apparently if three sims are all working on it together, you get this beam of light, . . .

Which drew quite a crowd, including the newlyweds. Then there was this opportunity to pull the "lever of doom." How ominous! I thought for sure something tragic would happen.

(This is a better shot of the "lever of doom" - Sandi tried it again later. But on that particular night, all that happened was those in the area got a "hive mind" which I guess is supposed to make difficult things easier for them for a short period of time. Lights swirled around their heads while they were in the hive mind.)

Now I have to wonder if there might be a one-in-ten chance of the "lever of doom" backfiring and causing death - like the jellybean bush does. Sandi will definitely take this contraption with her when she moves. I'm thinking she and Bernie could start a college of science in another town as their lasting legacy. We'll see.

As for Austin, he proposed to his girl Kathy La Mer (daughter of Bunny La Mer and Jeff Smith, both of Barnacle Bay.)

They decided to have their wedding in the Garden of the Forgotten. Why it is called this, I don't know, but I found it strange that the ghost of Alec Trebo a Barnacle Bay townie who is alive at the beginning of the game, was skulking around there and crashed the party. I checked his profile, and he's said to be on the island searching for lost treasure. I looked all over the lot to see if there was a grave somewhere but there wasn't one, and it's a long way from any of the graveyards. I wouldn't think a ghost would wander that far.

So the attendees included the bride and groom, one imaginary-friend-turned-real and his new wife, one imaginary-friend-turned-real dressed like a simbot, the ghost of Alec Trebo, 1 vampire (groom's uncle), 2 random party crashers, the parents of the groom, and the university mascot, who apparently just came for the cake.

It was good to see that Austin was just as giddy at his own wedding as he was at his friend Lucky's.

Alec swooped in and took the first piece of cake.

Sandi wasn't happy with the plan to hold the wedding outdoors. Maybe she thought it would rain. Maybe she thought bugs would get in the cake. Who knows?

Holli gave Bernie Butler some flowers, but Lucky didn't seem upset about it.

He just made sure he was giving her enough attention.

Lucky French shed his simbot costume long enough to insult the groom. Way to go, man.

"Don't pay attention to him, honey. He can't ruin our special day."

"Now that you are a married man, you are responsible for more than just yourself. You should probably consider your writing to be a hobby and get a real job with a steady paycheck," Sandi advised.

"You are a real gem, ma, but writing books is a real job, and I'm pretty good at it," Austin replied.

"Besides, Kathy just landed a great political job in this little town called Pleasantville. We will be moving there in a few days. I think a change of scenery will provide me with a lot of new ideas for my books. I'm looking forward to a new town with new people."

It wasn't my intention to start a new game - my intent was to drop Austin and Kathy into one of my existing games, but then I saw a video about Pleasantville. Further explanations can be found in the first Pleasantville episode.

As for Sandi and Bernie Sr, I move them to a new town - Brokeback Island, but I don't think I'll leave them there. It is an empty world from the Exchange, I think, but the creator must have been very new to creating worlds. The intersections of roads aren't connected correctly, and this causes a flickering at every one of them, and the paths that should be relatively level are steeply slanted. I don't trust the routing. Maybe I'll move them to Roaring Heights and try to add a lot or bulldoze a big lot or two for the college campus I want to set up in their names. Maybe that's what I can do with the upper levels of that awful library in that town.

So it's so long Barnacle Bay.
