Cape Albacore - Part 1

I guess I can't help myself. I like to play as a town is being built. This game is a little different, however. It's part of a collaboration where one person (Hidehi), created the world, and others select lots and build something for the lots they select. I intended to wait until the town was finished or mostly finished before playing my save, but I grabbed a household from my library to enter the game and give me some guidance as to who I'm building my house for, and it just went from there. So here's the start of a new game.

Maria Killian is a single mother with a toddler daughter named Jan and an obnoxious dog named Mr. Boots.

Maria is half way through her adult stage. She has a good sense of humor, is handy, nurturing, a computer whiz, and an angler. Her favorite music is Digitunes; her favorite food is egg rolls, and her favorite color is green.

Her daughter Jan is a loner and clumsy and likes Chinese music, falafels, and the color pink.

Mr. Boots is a jerk taking pride in his work. He definely has the destructive trait and made it very difficult for me to keep the house looking the way I wanted it saved to the library and on the Exchange.

Here's the house, located at 13 Starfish Lane. It has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a formal living room, formal dining room, recreation room, kitchen with a breakfast bar, and a laundry room. The master suite also includes an office/reading room. (After posting it to the Exchange, I made a few adjustments, including turning the window above Mr. Boots' head the correct way. The improved version will be uploaded to the Exchange soon.)

At this point, the world has three other builds by other participants. While CC isn't allowed, store content and all EPs and Stuff Packs are. I have all the EPs and a lot of store content, but only two stuff packs, so some minor things are either missing or replaced in the builds, so I go through them and adjust as needed. I just noticed in this picture below that some windows are missing from the left side of the house. I'll go find a good substitute next time I'm in the game.

This is Sea Glass Cove by Sandraelle. It has two bedrooms and a skills room upstairs and a nice back yard with a pool and deck. So far in my game, no one has moved into it, but I think I have immigration set so there needs to be at least 3 empty houses before anyone moves in.

The two community lots in the world so far are the Nostore Literary Arts building and the Port Narwahl Coast Guard Base.

This is the Nostore Literary Arts building - a combo of library on the lower level and art museum/studio on the upper floor. It's a great place to pass the time and learn some skills on a rainy day. Ciane is the creator of this lot.

There have been a lot of rainy days, and some pretty impressive storms so far in the game. Here is the Coast Guard Base in the rain. This is Soocoolsim's creation. A lot of my gameplay so far centers around this lot, and this is why.

Another challenge going on right now is a CAS challenge - every day in October has a different fall-inspired or Halloween-inspired theme. Day One was "Plaid." I created LeRoy Turner, a fresh-out-of high school young adult ready to enlist in the Coast Guard. He's the nephew of Marie Killian, and he came to stay with her a day or two while he got settled.

He's disciplined, athletic, flirty, irresistible, and a daredevil. The Coast Guard Base was downloaded CC free, but I added a military rabbithole rug so LeRoy could join up and also take a handiness class. I made his home the port that's part of the lot, but planned on him to basically live at the base. I gave him a camp chair and sleeping bag in case he insisted on being on the unbuilt boat. For a few days at least, he lived at the base, . . .

. . . and it was hoppin' with sims - some homeless and some paparazzi.

Neal Marshall - a homeless guy who sports a top hat - was particularly interesting. Without any
introduction whatsoever, he walked up to LeRoy and slapped him in the face!

Maybe he was "hangry." However, he wasn't the only one who took an immediate dislike to LeRoy. Darrick Leone, who also doesn't know LeRoy, came up and accused him of something - my guess is he accused LeRoy of being conceited and wanted to put him in his place.

"Don't go thinking you'll get any special treatment around here, boy. We don't like your highfalutin ways!" Darrick exclaimed.

"Yeah! He thinks he's better 'n us!" Neal chimed in to anyone who would listen.

Poor LeRoy doesn't seem very good at making friends. He'll keep trying, though. By the end of the evening, he had smoothed things over a little with Neal and Darrick, but they still didn't like him very much.

Over the next few soggy days, LeRoy got to know some more people. He seemed to get along with women better than the men. Maybe the men were just jealous of his youth and good looks.

At first, I had LeRoy living exclusively at the base, but going to the uncompleted houseboat to collect his mail. Then I gave him a sleeping bag and camp chair in case he insisted on hanging out there. Then I spotted the derelict houseboat nearby and decided to mimic that as close as I could. (It looks like I'm still missing a door and window on the lower level in the front. I might have put them in the back instead.)

It was a modest set-up, and as he got a few more paychecks, the upstairs became a bedroom with a real bed, but this was how it started out. LeRoy was a little inexperienced with "adulting" and forgot to pay the bills, but I think he learned his lesson after the repo man paid him a visit.

I think all he took was a wall sconce. LeRoy met a girl he is developing a romantic interest in at the library. More on that next time I visit Cape Albacore. The Coast Guard Cutter has arrived and LeRoy needs to move his houseboat elsewhere. I'm hoping he can just drop anchor nearby and get a jet ski to get to work. I know the postman and paper delivery kid arrive by boat to drop off things when the boat isn't docked anywhere.

I'll wait for a few more lots to be completed then revisit.
