Northern Winds part 18.2: The first few days in the Wild Wild West

As soon as the Maloney family arrived at their new home in the Wild Wild West, they discovered there was a reason this property was so cheap - just about every plumbing fixture was broken. As Polly, Maxwell, and Kyngston set to work on the repairs, I furnished the house and updated the wall treatments.

Polly, as usual, was unimpressed with my furniture choices and went room to room blubbering over what things might have cost. Get over it Polly, you are a very successful author and make a lot of money now. You've come a long way from hunkering in the basement of your parents' old building and getting your resources from the dumpster.

A repairman showed up to offer his help, and some of the neighbors came by to welcome the family, one of them driving a very fancy pink and white sports car.

The owner of the car was Ben Wellby, who I assume is a doctor. He's rather handsome too. Polly found out he was single and took an immediate liking to him.

Before the night was over, she up and kissed him.  Luckily, he was into it.

As I was peeping through the window at this romantic exchange, I witnessed Maxwell in his werewolf self (it happened to be a full moon that night), burst in and ruin the moment. Way to go, Maxwell.

Maxwell wasn't the only one accusing poor Ben of being a lame-brain. Kyngston pulled the same stunt earlier in the day.

I need to get Maxwell to paint us a masterpiece for that back wall. Speaking of Maxwell, tonight wasn't his night. He actually got bitten by a zombie.

"What did you go and do that for, man?!?" Luckily, I guess Maxwell can't be a werewolf and zombie at the same time. Lucky break.

In addition to Ben Wellby, Maureen Wayne (wife of John Wayne) also stopped by to meet the family.

Here's the game version of John. Kyngston met him the next day.

Kyngston made sure John knew he was special.

Earlier that day, Kyngston had a singing telegram to deliver to one of the firemen.

He took the opportunity to meet all the firefighters and sold some of his albums.

Lately, Kyngston has been doing more guitar playing than singing - I wish they could do both. But he earned over $775 in tips one day playing at the horse training grounds.

Polly managed to get out and about and meet some interesting people too. Outside of the diner, she met Old Woodenhead. She thought there was something odd about the man, but she just couldn't put her finger on it. She asked him if he needed medical attention.

It turns out, as they continued talking, Old Woodenhead admitted to being a mummy.

"Oh, that explains it," said Polly.
She also met Liza Reptile. Hmmm. . . . something is fishy in that genepool.

She wants to become good friends with Liza and Old Woodenhead.

Maxwell came up with the potion to turn Patterns real, so Calvin offered it to him. Now there are three little boys running around the house. Patterns looks like a bully to me. I'd better keep my eye on him.

As the family settles in, I'm looking forward to their new adventures.

Marco, the blonde kid, will be aging up to a teen in a day or two. I think he will be getting a horse for his birthday.
